These terms govern your use of SignMe.lk. By using the site — whether signing a petition, creating one, or just browsing — you agree to them.

1. What SignMe.lk is

SignMe.lk is a neutral platform that hosts petitions created by members of the public. We provide the tools; we don't write, verify, endorse, investigate, or take responsibility for the content, claims, requests, or conduct of any petition or its organiser. Petitions represent the views of their individual organisers, not SignMe.lk.

2. Eligibility

You must be at least 16 years old to create an account or start a petition. If you're signing a petition without an account, you should be old enough to genuinely understand and consent to what you're signing. Information you submit must be accurate — don't sign or create petitions using someone else's name or identity.

3. Accounts

Starting a petition requires a verified account (email verification via a one-time code). Signing a petition does not. You're responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for all activity under your account. Create one account for yourself, not multiple accounts to work around limits or manipulate results.

4. Rules for petitions

Petitions must not contain:

• Hate speech, harassment, or threats against any person or group
• Calls for violence or illegal acts
• Defamatory or knowingly false claims
• Spam, or content unrelated to a genuine petition
• Private/personal information about someone else posted without their consent
• Content that infringes someone else's copyright or other rights (including images you upload as a cover photo — you're responsible for having the right to use them)

We may close or remove petitions that violate these rules, with or without notice, at our discretion.

5. Signing petitions

Each email address may sign a given petition once. Once submitted, a signature (including any comment or drawn signature) cannot be edited or removed — this is stated clearly before you sign, and by signing you confirm you understand that. Don't use fake or someone else's details to sign.

6. Reporting & moderation

Anyone can report a petition they believe breaks these terms. We review reports and may remove petitions, close them, or take other action we consider appropriate. Reporting is not a guarantee of any particular outcome or timeframe.

7. Sending results to a target

A petition owner may choose to email their petition's public results to a recipient of their choosing, once per petition. This is entirely the organiser's choice and action — SignMe.lk does not review, approve, or take responsibility for who a petition is sent to or what the recipient does with it. The email itself makes clear it was sent via SignMe.lk at the organiser's request and that SignMe.lk isn't responsible for the petition's content.

8. Content ownership

You retain ownership of the petitions, images, and comments you submit. By posting content on SignMe.lk, you grant us a licence to display, reproduce, and distribute it as part of operating the platform (for example, showing it on the petition page, in exports, or in a published results report).

9. Prohibited conduct

You agree not to: scrape or bulk-extract data from the site; use bots or automated tools to sign petitions or create accounts; attempt to bypass captchas, rate limits, or other abuse protections; interfere with the site's normal operation; or impersonate another person or organisation.

10. Third-party content and links

Petitions may include links or embedded content (e.g. YouTube videos) hosted by third parties. We don't control and aren't responsible for that third-party content, including whether a video remains available or embeddable.

11. Disclaimers

SignMe.lk is provided "as is," without warranties of any kind. We don't guarantee the platform will be uninterrupted or error-free, that a petition will reach or be acted on by its intended target, or any particular outcome from starting or signing a petition.

12. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, SignMe.lk and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform, or from the content or conduct of any petition, organiser, or signer.

13. Suspension & termination

We may suspend or terminate accounts, or remove petitions, that violate these terms, at our discretion and without prior notice.

14. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms as the platform changes. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do.
