Frequently asked questions
Do I need an account to sign a petition?
No. Signing is open to anyone — just your name, email, and a couple of other details. Creating an account is only needed if you want to start your own petition.
Do I need an account to start a petition?
Yes. Starting a petition requires a verified account, since petitions carry an organiser's name and contact details.
Is my personal information public when I sign?
Your name and any comment you add are shown publicly on the petition page. Your email, National ID, and IP address are never shown publicly — they're only visible to the petition's owner and site administrators.
Can I sign the same petition twice?
No, each email address can sign a given petition once.
Can I edit or remove my signature after signing?
No. Once submitted, a signature cannot be edited or removed — this is stated clearly before you sign.
Is SignMe.lk responsible for what a petition says?
No. SignMe.lk is a neutral platform that hosts petitions. We don't verify, endorse, investigate, or take responsibility for the claims, requests, or conduct of any petition or its organiser.
Can I export my petition's signatures?
Yes. From your petition's dashboard you can export signatures as CSV or Excel, and generate a branded printable or downloadable report — all built on the fly and never stored on our servers.
How do I report a petition that breaks the rules?
Use the Contact Us page and choose "Report a petition" as the subject, including a link to the petition and details of the issue.
